VCRC Ceramic Bearing Maintenance

The biggest enemy to a bearing is contamination.  Therefore a long lifespan is directly related to proper care and maintenance.  Your VCRC Ceramic bearings are high performance parts and should be taken care of as such.

Your VCRC Ceramic Bearings are sealed and pre-greased with VCRC Speed Cream Grease.  You will need to purchase our VCRC Speed Cream Grease to grease our bearings.  It is the only grease we recommend as compatible with our bearings.

Do not continue to use bearings that won't spin freely. If you continue to ride dirty or poorly lubricated bearings, you can permanently damage the bearings. Contaminants in your bearings can cause the pitting of your races, increasing friction, causing heat buildup, and can eventually cause the bearing to stop turning.

Under normal riding conditions the bearings should be inspected at least once per year to determine if any maintenance is required.  You should keep your bearings clean (no dirt or moisture) and well lubricated.  Water can rust the races and dirt can destroy the race finish if left for too long.  Poorly maintained bearings are not covered under warranty.

If the bearing needs maintenance, the below videos will help show how to perform the task.  It is really very easy to do.

How to grease your VCRC Ceramic Shimano 10, FSA or SRAM Bottom Bracket
(Please note the method is the same for our SRAM BB except you will need to remove the non drive cup and remove the SRAM shim to access the bearing.  You can press the shim out using a socket or other device that matches the diameter of the shim).

This method of greasing should also be used for our other types of BBs (Campy UT, BB30, BB86 and BB90), wheel bearings and pulley bearings as needed.

How to clean your VCRC Ceramic Bearings

Cleaning is only required if your bearings have gotten dirty.  If you grease the bearings often keeping them well lubed and clean, cleaning is rarely needed.

Riding in adverse weather conditions (rain, snow, dusty, etc.) will speed up the maintenance interval. If you regularly ride in these conditions we do recommend inspecting the bearings more often.

**We also recommend riders in climates that are often wet, humid, dusty, etc. to apply a layer of VCRC Speed Cream on the outside of each seal (2 per bearing) prior to installation. This will further protect the bearings from the elements and potential contamination.

It is also recommended that you send your bearings back to us once a year for a factory cleaning. Our factory cleaning is a very advanced and in depth process that cleans much better than any shop or at home cleaning.

We strongly recommend a qualified bicycle mechanic perform all imaintenance.
